How it works
- Upload your square app icon — 1024 × 1024 PNG or SVG works best.
- Upload your foreground and background as separate layers.
- Preview it on a real Android adaptive device mockup before you commit.
- Download a ZIP with every Android adaptive size, correctly named and foldered — no signup.
Frequently asked questions
- How do Android adaptive icons work?
- An adaptive icon is two separate layers — a foreground and a background — that the launcher masks into whatever shape it prefers, such as a circle, squircle or rounded square. Layerico composites both layers at the correct size for every density and writes ic_launcher.xml so Android knows to use them.
- What is the adaptive icon safe zone?
- The adaptive icon canvas is 108dp but only the centre 72dp is guaranteed visible — the outer ring can be cropped by the launcher mask or used for parallax. Layerico insets your foreground into that 72dp safe zone automatically so nothing important gets cut off.
- What sizes are the adaptive icon layers?
- The 108dp canvas renders at 108 × 108 (mdpi), 162 × 162 (hdpi), 216 × 216 (xhdpi), 324 × 324 (xxhdpi) and 432 × 432 (xxxhdpi). Layerico exports a foreground and background PNG at each of those five sizes.
- Does Layerico generate ic_launcher.xml?
- Yes. It writes ic_launcher.xml into mipmap-anydpi-v26 referencing both layers, alongside ic_launcher_round.png and the density-bucketed PNGs.
